LOVE
The Love School, District number six, was located eleven miles East
of Tulia and two and one half miles north of the old JA headquarters
of Swisher county. The first building was made possible by funds
donated by the cowboys at $25.00 each. G.E. Love, Jess Rix, and
Mr. Winsor hauled the materials from Amarillo. The citizens of the
community donated their labor and erected the first school building
in the community.
The first teacher of the Love School was Mrs. Osborn who taught
a three-month school. The scholastic population grew as the community
settled. They achieved independent status some time during the 1920's.
A $25,000.00 bond was placed on the district in order to build a
suitable building to accommodate the students.

The
payments on the bonds were $1 ,000.00 per year with 6% interest.
During the 1930's these payments became a financial burden. So the
district refinanced their bonds and issued $16,500.00 in bonds payable
at $500.00 per year at 4% interest.
