Eleven February 1909, under the leadership of J. G. Goodner, and A D. Elkins the Elkins school district was formed consisting of 110 Square Miles. J. G. Goodner, A D. Elkins, and E. D. Bell were the first trustees. The first teacher was Travis H. Houston. It was recognized as a standard rural school that met the requirements for such as appraised by the State Department of Education.
