CENTER PLAINS
On 13 June 1892, the county was divided into school districts consisting of about 100 square miles. The court order states "districts to be ten miles square." Center Plains was assigned number nine. In 1923 Center Plains and Auburn schools were consolidated and was numbered "Consolidated school number one." "The first settlers built a one-room school house two miles north of Center Plains store. A second house was built where the Center Plains Store is now (1962). Then in 1923 the school building was moved one mile west. At which time the Auburn School and Center Plains School was consolidated." (Evans, p. 76) Center Plains was consolidated with Kress in 1947.

Some of the Teachers of the Center Plains School were: Lottie Scheehagan, 1913; Ruth Moore, 1914; Ovie Vaughn, 1915; Dora Ward, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cleveland, Miss lone Reed, Dewey Reed, Leora Stallings, Ruth Ogden, Mr. and Mrs.

W. P. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Rose, Mr. and Paul Foster, Wanda Douglas, Grace Sorrenson, Laura and Ruth Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Mitchell, Boone Lacewell, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Wilmeth, Jessie Ehresman, Miss Electra Beauchamp, Clara A. Uhl, Lilliam Fulkerson, Cora Lonlee, Callie U. Miller, Viola West, and Lucille Rousser Anderson.

Some of the early patrons of the Center Plains school were: J. F. and Will Ervin, J. L. Smith, Dickerson, Tom Bagley, Will Lawler, McCans, John Gaylor, John Estes, Joe and John Vaughn, R N. Adama, H. M. Cass, Fred Faulkner, John Grundy, Ward, Fred and Will Rousser, A J. Harmel, Homer Newton, J. C. Newton, Elex Jones, Frank Norfleet, G. W. Baker, Arthur Baker, Claude Barker, Fred Sjogren, J. B. Merrell, Schalre Smiley, Arch McDaniel, R. F. Orasby and Glenn Dustman.
