time It wasn't uncommon to feed over 100 people at the noon meal. The Clayton Gin was one of the first gins to compost gin waste and return it to the farmers' land. For several years the gin had a community barbecue before harvest started.
Before too long, houses started being built in the community; at present there are 12 residences, along with B.F.W Grain Co, Community Gin Inc., Kress Farmers Elevator, Flick's Farm Supply, Country Girl Beauty Shop and Lovorn's Oil Co. In 1962 the Whitfield Baptist Church built a new church on Farm Rd. 145, and changed its name to The
First Baptist Church of Claytonville. The Church has been chosen as a Historical Marker location.
Prec. 10 elections are held in Claytonville at the B.F.W. Grain Co. community room. Claytonville also is proud of their fire truck, donated by the county It has been used several times during fires in the community.

Until 1909 settlers east of Tulia either sent their children to Tulia or Love schools. Finally there were enough people In the area to build a one room school and create an identity of their own.
At a meeting of the neighbors, Douglas Elkins donated the land on which to build the school and a carpenter - Mr. Gardener was hired to supervise construction. All the neighbors donated their time, materials and money to make their dream a reality.
By the fall of 1909, the doors to the little one room school house opened for classes with Travis Houston hired as the first teacher. He boarded |
