our standby as pianist. At one time, after the anginal school building had been enlarged and remodeled. we had a fairly large, two teacher school. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Vars were among the teachers who served the Community, also, Mrs. Harvey Crane, Mrs. Grounds from Amarillo, Miss Helen Burtz (Mrs Earl Davis) and Mrs. Ramsey of Tulia.
In the late 1930's. the district was annexed to Happy. The school building was moved away and now serves as a recreation center for the Catholic Church in Happy.
We hope some of the good times we enjoyed may be re-enacted for the younger generation In the present Community Building.

CLAYTONVILLE COMMUNITY
Being a community of recent growth, Claytonville is little known by the casual observer. It was |

known as a community until the early 1950's when M. C Clayton (1899-1963)
moved a cotton gin from Bailey, Texas. Fannin Co, to its present
location on Farm Rd. 145, ten miles east of Kress, Texas.
Elmer Clayton visited his daughter. Mrs. Roy Devin, In the fall of
1949, saw the wonderful cotton crops in Swisher County. and moved
a gin to Kress, Texas. His gin had a good season and his brother,
M. C. Clayton. began talking of moving one of his gins to Swisher
County. Robert Devin, Paul Hays and L. L. Armour showed him the cotton
crops in this area and assisted In phoning Andrew Price, Jr. of Seattle,
Washington, who sold the ten acres for Clayton Gin.
He brought most of his gin help with him from Bailey and they needed
a place to eat, so he built a cafe and, later on, a grocery store.
It soon became a favorite place for the community to meet and
do their arm-chair farming. At one
