blacksmith, being old buildings, were not moved to the new location. The land was owned by a Mr. Lyons of California. Besides the school there was a large, square, two story house there. Late in 1920 the house burned. At the time, Mr. Ernest Martin and family lived in the house.

Auburn was again moved, only this time it lost its name. The Center Plains Community was located where the Center Plains Gin is today. What was at Center Plains was moved to the present location of the old Center Plains, and the old school at Auburn was torn down and was rebuilt into a teacher-age and school. The Old Red Brick Center Plains school that was built in 1923 still stands today.

We have compiled a partial list of former students with the help of Mr. Ben Merrill of Edmonson, Texas and Mr. Andrew Behrends of Dimmitt, Texas. Some of these people were

students only at Auburn while some like Mr. Merrill and Mr. Behrends attended both schools. Ben Merrill, Andrew Behrends, Mabel Rousser Heflin, Willie Bell Rousser Thompson, Robert Gaylor, Albert Gaylor, Henry Merrill, Lee Merrill, Alvin Merrill, Lynn Merrill, Sam Smiley, Harold Rousser, Shelley Smiley, Chester Smiley, Cecil Rousser, Helen Smiley, Grady Rousser, Sue Rhoady, Bufford Carlton, Nora Carlton, Maggie Rhody, Mary Lou Rhody, Allou Davis, Frankie Davis, Hansen Davis, Delos Knight, Orville Knight, Lois Greenfield, Dorothy Greenfield, Cleta Phillips, Jim Walker, Pat Walker and Ray Riley.
