WRIGHT COMMUNITY
Wright was a small community in the southern part of Swisher
County, located 2 miles east and 1 mile north of the present town
of Kress, Texas. It seems there was a Baptist minister that herded
cattle all week, and preached on Sunday, by the name of Wright.
Thus the name Wright. Wright was on the stage line from Canyon to
Plainview. The following is taken from an interview from the
late E. O. Bass, that moved here with his parents in 1900. "In

stage and mail hack ran from Canyon, east of the cemetery there,
through old Happy, which was three miles east of present Happy,
through Tulia, Wright and on into Plainview. Bob Montgomery

the next. T. A. Ross was the post master at Wright.

A fresh team was harnessed and tied up at a post. When the stage
came in all they had to do was take the old team out, hook fresh
teams on, and they would leave in a dead run. These were small Spanish
mules."
It seems Wright was started in 1890, which consisted of a post
office, general mercantile
