Swepston, Victor Harman, Jody Boston, Mrs. Julius Hansen, Delia Montgomery, Lucile Anderson, Marvin Kemper, Mrs. Emma Darrough, Betty McCaslin, Winnie Ferguson and Helen Burrow.

The P.T.A. was an active organization in the Houston Community. Plays were presented as a fund raising project, not only at the school, but in other communities. The parents and teachers cooperated to make the community life very interesting and enjoyable.

KAFFIR
The Kaffir school district was organized about 1906. The first one room school house was located one mile north and a half mile east of the Kaffir Elevator, on the Jordan land. Some of the early settlers were the Whites, the Bradfords, the Fincks, the Smiths, the

Goettschs, and the J. C. Manns. There is no record of the earliest teachers.

In 1911, the school was moved three miles north and one mile west of the Kaffir Elevator, on the Paul Goettsch farm. Drinking water for the school was carried from the windmill that furnished water for the Goettsch family. Teachers, at this time, were Gladys Neff of Happy, and Katharine Stewart of Canyon. Katharine was a sister to the late Dr. E. P. Stewart of Tulia. Teachers who taught a little later were Ruth Hood of Canyon and Helen Mann of Happy.

About 1922, the school was moved, again. The South part of the district had settled up and there were more children in that part. The school was located on the H. C. George farm, one mile north and one-half mile west of the Kaffir Elevator. Another room was built on; and Kaffir became a two teacher school.
