FLINT COMMUNITY
Prior to 1914, the children living in the area ten miles northeast of Kress were going to the Wright School which was two miles northeast of Kress. They rode horses about eight miles. To have better accommodations, Charley Drake, Will Grubb, Ben Rush, Frank Vannerson and others arranged a school on the Drake ranch, taught by one teacher. This building was moved one mile east. It was blown from its foundation during a bad storm, but was replaced. Finally a two room schoolhouse was built 11 miles southeast of Tulia at the present site of the Wheat Grower's Elevator, Flint division.

Other families who had children attending this school, other than those previously mentioned, were: W. M. Hearn, E. L. Cantrell, Clifford Vars, the Williams, the Cairns, the Harmonsons and the Dietrich family. Miss Algie Hodges was a teacher, and the one room schoolhouse was also used as a teacher-age.

In 1917, Sheriff Mack Crawford of Tulia telephoned in the middle of the night asking the location of a big prairie fire. When people checked, they reported that a big pasture was burning near Flint School. The Sheriff alerted the Tulia Fire Department and they assisted
the farmers in extinguishing the fire. Flint school was saved.

The Community life centered about the school, with its programs and entertainments. Sunday School met regularly. Baptists, Methodists and the Church of Christ each usually held one monthly service. Later the Baptists built a nice church for their meetings.

Those living in Flint Community took pride in it and felt that the School and its Community had a wonderful part in pioneering the area.
