SWISHER COUNTY COMMUNITIES

Swisher County people have always had a strong community loyalty, and even though some are no longer in existence, we still call them by earlier names.

If all the stories could be printed, they would fill a book, but since space is limited, we are trying to give the things that make each community unique.

The love of the land and the pride we share
in a common heritage have made us one.

ADAIR POST OFFICE
The old Adair Post Office was on the draw five miles east, from the south line of the Happy town section. An old windmill and granary still stand. E. W. Breitkrentz owns the west half section and J. A. King the east half.

Judge Hall kept the Adair Post Office. The mail was carried either horse back or in a buggy drawn by two horses, twice each week.

The mail carrier would go in and pick up outgoing mail and leave Adair mail. The nesters would go to the Post Office, drop off their letters, look through the mail, take their mail and also take their neighbors' mail to them.

ALEXANDER COMMUNITY
Families began arriving in the early 1900's to make their home in the community. Among the first were the George Reids, but their home was across the line in Briscoe County; however, they filed
